My iPad Air is lagging after ios 7.1 update

I noticed that the animations of opening and closing apps take longer than they did previously before update. I also seem to have the same issue with my iPhone 5, too! I thought the whole point of the update was to speed up my devices with the newer operating system, but alas, no.

I've seen just the opposite on my iPad Air. Animations of opening and closing apps is quicker and Safari seems more snappy.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Second make sure you have enough free space. With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free. For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.

Also check your Settings > General > Accessibility to make sure Reduce Motion is not on.

iPad running slow? How to speed up a slow iPad

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

 Cheers, Tom 😉

I got it up to speed now. I already had reduced motion enabled, cleared history&cookies from safari, made sure background apps are closed, and turned off Bluetooth. The problem was in increase contrast. By going to settings>general>accessibility>increase contrast>enable darken colors and enabled reduced white point. I could have reduced transparency, which looked horrible, but I saw enough improvement with dark colors&reduced white point enabled. Worked on both my iPad and iPhone.
