HP C5580 scanner won't work

I have my USB cable hooked up to my MacBook Pro. My HP C5580 printer/scanner has been printing fine this way since I have had the printer. I want to start scanning some documents, but it keeps giving me an error. "Sorry. Scanner can not be initialized. Scanner not found."

I went to HP's website and really could not find anything to help solve this. It appears others were having similar problems.

Please help if anyone can.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

My solution for MY problem;

My printer is connected through a powered USB hub which is connected to my mini.

When I tried connecting a spare USB keyboard through the same hub, it also didn't work so I

powered the computer down, removed power from the hub, disconnected it from the computer, then

reversed the steps(connected the hub to computer and powered it on).

When I restarted my Mini I found the keyboard now worked - then checked the printer which also now

works again.

This solution will likely only apply if you are using an external hub ;-)

It solved my problem.

Good luck.
