THere are four locations in Settings that you can sign in with an Apple ID. They are Settings - iCloud, iTunes &App Stores, iMessages, and FaceTime. All but iCloud you can simply tap on the Apple ID button and sign out. With iCloud you will need to enter the PW for the ID that is currently signed in with and it will remove that accounts content from the device so that you can start syncing yours.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. When it is done enter your own information.
Best of luck.
If you need to share iTunes content like music and movies, you can set one Apple Id for iTunes and App Stores. And a separate one for iMessages, Facetime and iCloud.
To sign out. you can go to Settings for each service, tap on the Apple ID, and then on Sign Out.
However, if you ant to be completely separate the best thing to do is to wipe the iPad clean and start over.
Settings->General->Reset->Erase All Content & Settings
This didn't' help. I reset it, but I'm still logged in.

Meaning what exactly?
Is the device asking you for an Apple ID to unlock it?
Is there an Apple ID still logged in to some service under Settings?
What exactly happened?
