its a mobile function not a sim network function.
Did you read the thread you just posted in? No iPhone has that feature.
Submit your feedback to Apple at the feedback link already given in this thread.
Not exactly. Read receipts and delivery reports are two different features. While the former could be invasive as you rightly pointed out, the latter does not necessarily do that-- all what is required is to be able to check the message details and be able to see that message is delivered to the recipient's device.
Almost 3years into this thread, I am on iOS 10.x.x and still looking for delivery reports feature on my iPhone. This ought to have been sorted since.
Thanks

It will only get "sorted" if Apple considers it to be a missing feature (it's certainly not a bug per se), and I suspect yours may well be the only complaint they've received.
SMS is certainly a carrier feature. But then the device should be equipped to receive the Delivery report and show it to the user. While many carriers have been doing this for decades, it is sad that Apple is not bothered to look at this very useful feature
some people....
SMS and it's Delivery Receipt is part of the GSM specification. All GSM networks support this. A carrier may choose to enable or disable Delivery Reports(also known as Delivery Reports)
Every mobile phone comes with the ability to request an SMS delivery receipt, except Apple iphones. I rely on SMS delivery receipts on my messages. And this is why I don't have an iphone which is a pity. I'd happily buy an iphone when Apple thinks they should add a feature that has been in common use for the past 20 years. My spouse won't buy an iphone without Delivery Reports. SMS is usually free in most EU countries or in bundles of 1000 per month. Thus effectively free.
I have a lovely Macbook instead.
For more information please read,

"Some providers allow users to request delivery reports, either via the SMS settings of most modern phones, or by prefixing each message with *0# or *N#. However, the exact meaning of confirmations varies from reaching the network, to being queued for sending, to being sent, to receiving a confirmation of receipt from the target device, and users are often not informed of the specific type of success being reported."
SMS Delivery Reports should be part of all phones. Omitting this from iPhones seems idiotic.

Submit your feedback to Apple here:
SMS delivery reports are a network feature, not a phone feature, so contact your carrier.
What kind of delivery report are you trying to get?
The messages app will report Delivered or Read only for messages sent to other iOS devices. Messages sent to non Apple devices will not get such a report.
The question is about SMS delivery reports, & as provided:
SMS delivery reports are a network feature, not a phone feature, so contact your carrier.
Guys,
Are you kidding?
Using a Nokia phone on the same network with the same SIM you have this function.
Why everyone is saying that is a network feature...is not.
Prove us wrong then by calling your carrier and asking them. Come back in and post what they say.
Just place *0# before any message to receive a delivery report.
Eg. *0# Hello, how are you?
- Instead of Hello, how are you?
Guys are you making fun of us?
Of course the SMS delivery notification is a network feature, the same way as 3G, Edge, 4G, MMS etc are carrier services.
However it is needed the relative software from the device to support that.
Carriers support SMS notification and I can use this feature by having a Nokia €1 device from 1994.
But an iPhone, from 2014, worth €600+ do not support that!
Mattyp123, what is your carrier? Because *0# is not for all carriers... Each carrier has its own prefix / end-fix...
So let's get serious and have some series answers:
Is the SMS delivery notification going to be implemented or not? (SMS, not iMessage. To be clear what the question is)
yes, iphone is tottaly useless phone becouse dont have delivery reports in sms and mms, in all Europe, Asia and Australia we have delivery reports at least 20 years!!!! maybe only in USA dont. It is a GSM standard.
next think why iphone dont have fm radio? why dont have call recording? this is not bussines phone.
This is a toy.
Finally why NSA listens our conversations by iphone and watches our naked pictures in apple cloud ?

Totally useless? Seriously? And you need an FM radio on a business phone? Why ever did you buy an iPhone? Surely such a savvy business person as yourself would have researched the purchase ahead of time.
It's also a safe bet that no one is interested in hacking your nude photos.
