viewing videos: is there a universal format?

I have made some videos with imovie, after being compressed and imported to iweb, I published my site through my .mac account. Now other mac users can log on to my website and enjoy the videos I have uploaded.
The problem is 9 out of 10 PC/WINDOWS users have problems with the videos on my site how can I make my videos and my site more user friendly?-Ken

The trouble is with your export method from iMovie.
All of the canned "presets" use H.264 video codec which requires QuickTime 7 be installed to view. If they don't have version 7, or can't install it, the best they'll get is audio. Mac or PC. No version 7 no movie viewing.
Choose the QuickTime option (Share menu) and the "Expert Settings". Movie to QuickTime Movie. Use the MPEG-4 Video codec and AAC audio (no H.264). Adjust the settings (frame and data rate) and audio (128kbits/s), name the file and wait for the export to finish.
Testing a 30 second export at various settings will help you optimize quality versus file size. A few trial and error exports and a piece of paper to write them down is all you need to make small file sized good looking QuickTime files.
These codecs can be viewed by older versions of QuickTime. No fuss. No begging your PC friends to install QT 7.
