What does the Gray screen of Death indicate?

Hey guys, just some quick info on my mac:

13-inch Macbook Pro from mid 2009

Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)

I have never had any problems with this mac until very recently, especially after updating to Maverick. Generally my mac has been extremely sluggish, but i have been able to tolerate it (don't know for how much longer though). Recently, It has only happened twice but I got the Gray Screen of Death out of nowhere. The first time I got it, I was drawing on my Wacom Cintiq while recording. It crashed, and i lost everything i was doing. I restarted the laptop, and everything was back to normal. A couple days later however, It happened again, only this time I was watching a video on Chrome when it happened. Do you guys have any idea what could potentially cause this? I have 2 external HDD connected via USB hub, Speakers, and a Wacom Cintiq 20WSX, which I am using as my primary display with the laptop screen as the secondary. I usually have multiple programs running at the same time, such as Mail, Spotify, Chrome, Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro and MacKeeper in the background.

Not sure if this'll help:

Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to the problem:

Paragon NTFS

MacKeeper

Cyborg mouse driver

VirtualBox (outdated)

LittleSnitch

Seagate (or Maxtor) Drive Manager

You can't expect stability from such a heavily modified system.

"MacKeeper" is a scam, and you should unconditionally remove it as follows. First, back up all data.

Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.

IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.

In the Finder, select

Go Applications

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.

Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.

Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.

Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

If the panics continue, check that all the other system modifications are up to date, and if they are, uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can determine which is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
