2009 macbook pro with OSX 10.9.1- wont start

My 15" laptop has 2.66GHz intel Core 2 Duo; 4GB 1066MHz. I upgraded to OSX 10.9.1 and everything worked fine. I then had to upgrade my parallels to 9 to operate my windows 2007. Everything has worked fine. A few times I heard a funny sound, like a typewriter key stuck, but nothing else. After a couple of hours of working on it today, the screen suddenly went black and now the laptop won't start...........it is dead.

I would appreciate any and all assistance. thx

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

nottechi,

from your description, I would guess that your internal disk has died. If that is the problem, the disk is readily user-replaceable; along with a replacement disk, you would need a #00 Philips screwdriver (a “jeweler’s” screwdriver) and a T6 Torx screwdriver. I hope that you have backups of the personal data that were on your internal disk.
