Q: Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

If your 5s is still on ios 7.0.x then no wait for a few days to see what people say about battery life. If however your already on ios 7.1 or 7.1.1 then yes update you having nothing to loose. Battery decreased by 10% when upgraded from ios 7.0.3. I was lucky in that apple replaced my iphone however the replacement came with ios 7.0.5 and battery life is great. I can can charge it before bed and wake up and it's still on 100% charge. When I had ios 7.1 it discharged to 95% over night and drained a bit quicker through general usage.

My advise wait to see reviews to see if battery life improves - although apple make no reference to battery life improvements in the 7.1.2 update.

Since they don't admit there's a problem, they're hardly likely to say that the new software cures it!

Well i was waiting for 7.1.2 in hopes it would fix my battery issue and it did not...so it must be a hardware issue of some sort.  To reiterate, Apple checked my NEW battery and said the battery is fine....in about 40 minutes of sitting idle, battery went from 100 to 90.  So frustrating

Same here looks like battery issues will not be resolved and apple keep on insisting that my phone is working well. well its not

No, it definitely IS a software issue. It seems that Apple is unable or unwilling to fix it. Mind you, admitting that there IS a problem would be a start ...

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.  Today I left the house at 8:30 am with 100% battery.  I had a breakfast meeting and put my phone on the table while we ate and did not use it.  By 10:00 my battery was down to 3%.  On other occasions, the phone shuts itself down while there's still 30% power, and I have to plug the phone into a charger to get it to restart.  When it restarts, it shows >30% battery.  I've been struggling with this issue for months (as have numerous friends with iPhone 4, 5 and 5s).  I do not believe it is a hardware issue, but rather, an issue with iOS 7, which is when the problems began.  My old iPhone 4 running iOS 6 would go an entire day of heavy use on a single charge (and usually had juice to spare).  There is a serious power management problem with iOS 7.

You can conserve battery life by switching off cellular data, closing apps every time you finish using them, and other tricks mentioned on this chain, but then the phone doesn't function as advertised and is no longer a smart phone.  It is unreliable and essentially useless as a business device.  iPhone is advertised has having 10 hours talk time and 10 hours cellular data.  It doesn't even come close.  I encourage everyone to contact Apple directly to address this problem.  Something tells me Steve Jobs never would have let this happen.

That said, if anyone has a solution that doesn't involve disabling most of iPhone's functionality, please let me know.

Sorry for your issues..hate to say "preaching to the choir" but it is truly terrible, and we all have the same issue with no end in sight

What if we all were to send Apple Feedback another message?

All of us. This week. With some of us linking through this thread.

That should be noticeable in the queue, shouldn't it?

It is unfortunate that Apple only does limited initial report and then depends on people going to the genius bar. Been there done that. Takes half a day. No guarantee of any kind that something will get fixed or swapped. If anything you're almost guaranteed to be told you are the first one with this issue and/or you must be using it wrong, need to take battery saving measures, ....

I've got some nice 20-25% battery drain per hour screen grabs. But nowhere to send them.

The folks at the Apple store have reinstalled my 5s software twice (it's now ios 7.1.2) with no restore from backup... I have NO additional apps, nothing running... and my battery seems to drain faster than ever. This last time the "genius"  told me "you'll have to live with it b/c it isn't the battery and it isn't the software or the hardware." He then told me to just go from charger to charger. (Really?? Isn't the point of a mobile phone so you can be... MOBILE??)   My phone is 2 months old. Wish I'd kept my 4s. Never had any problems with that one! But, to answer your questions... 7.1.2 is out, but it has not improved the battery life at all.

Given that Apple seems quite unwilling even to recognise the problem, you might as well.

I've had some success by stopping my apps doing covert things in the background, but Apple doesn't even seem to know about that,

Well, I had this issue since February 2014.

Before yesterday, I've installed IOS 7.1.2 hopping that this will solve my problem. unfortunately, NO Change,

Last night, after a full charge I turned on the Flight mode at 1:00 am, in the morning i found the phone is down to 14% at 7:00 am.

I hope that this can be resolved soon or otherwise, I will have to search for my Nokia 3310
