Q: Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

if the battery is normal, and the phone just started doing this after you upgraded software, then it is still on them.  IT is an approved software upgrade supplied by Apple.

It is frustrating.  I have just been chatting with apple trying to get to the bottom of this but i got nowhere.  They keep saying my phone is ok.  I even directed them to this forum and he had the nerve to tell me that people here do not say the truth cos most of us have spilled liquid on the phone or been using faulty chargers.  I noticed the difference the same day i did the update.  First background on Whatsapp became black and white.  Then i uninstalled it.  That night phone was on 100% charge however when i woke up 7 hours later phone was dead and it was then that i realized that something had happened.  Since then battery only last 6 hours with normal use.  This is really frustrating considering the price of the phone and even if one sets the phone as they advise you to do it still wont make a difference.

I think its a lost cause.  Thumbs down for Apple.

Searched on  IOS 7.1.3 today and there is a ton of posts about this release fixing the battery drain.  I can tell you that I was hopeful that 7.1.2 was going to fix it but most of the posts about that update centered around other fixes...very few mentioned any thing about battery drain.  THIS one specifically discusses the battery drain issue and Apple's need to fix.  AT LAST....I am not hopeful, since when you search, there are tons of discussions about the issue...apparently they are now admitting it?  google ios 7.1.3....hope is there...maybe

I know this issue will be fixed but Apple is taking to long this time.

I have never seen an issue thus bad. I have almost everything turned off just so I can make it between times I can charge.

It makes it difficult to do since even on airplane mode it drains.

I don't understand what's going on at apple.

@sandenscot  So you're saying people who have the 7.1.3 beta / developers build have reported that it improves battery life?

It's bad enough that Apple has created this problem.

It's worse that they deny its existence.

But what makes me want to strangle an Apple 'Genius' is that they accuse their customers of lying about it

Apple is not denying anything they just never discuss what they are working in, and the engineers do not speak to the so called retail stores.

We just have to wait for the patch but it's taking an extremely long time for it.

There is no solution. Apple has to fix what they broke in an update.

With the amount of money and people they have this should have already been looked at and fixed.

Tried all, it doesn't resolve. I don't know why it takes so long to release 7.1.3. I wonder they will not issue another iOS 7 update, but rather iOS 8.

Close all background apps that are not needed. To do so, double click the home button & then find an app that you don't need & then swipe up on it, & if that does't work try bumping the brightness down.
