Q: Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

I had enough. This morning from 8am to 10:50am I went from 100% to 71% and all I have done is used myfitnesspal to add a few things, took 30 seconds. Used notes. Then it really sat her doing nothing most of the time.

My phone usually lasts until its time to go home.

I finally sent an email to Tim Cook. I got a response yesterday and talked to the executive offices. Monday they scheduled me to talk to an engineer.

Hopefully they can get to the bottom of this.

yeah the Restore didnt work for me. im not sure not why this is happening. while i was texting my friend my battery was like 29% and suddenly it gave me a warning saying battery is low and it was gone down to 15% in one blink. im going to downgrade the firmware from 7.1.2 to 7.1.1

7.1.1 is just as bad. You need to go back to 7.0.5 if you can.

I'm have the same problem for the last since updating to ios 7.1.2 (4S). My story is I; i live in the UK and went to Belgium for a few days while there I turn airplane mode on and wifi on (phone 4S working fine). I come back to UK turn airplane mode off then I noticed while charging the phone It was getting extremely hot and battery not powering up. From here on in I had battery drain and heating up issues like the rest of you (tried all teh usual restarts, switching features off etc)

I went to apple genius bar and they said the battery is old and needs replacing, spent £50 on a new battery (sucker!!). Problem still occurred after the new battery. I went back to apple they said that the "brain" of the iphone may not be balanced and there is some software issue. there only fix was buy a new phone or a battery pack (great technical support there!!) i had the phone switched off for a few days while using a BB. Got annoyed using this so started using the 4S with a battery pack for about 3days then abracadabra its working as normal for about 7days without the battery pack attached. I travel to Ireland for a few days and turn on aiplane mode and wifi again. I come back to the  UK and turn airplane mode on etc. and now its back to battery drain and phone heating up blaablaa.

Im trying to find a trend here, to see if the issue is to do with the network or airplane mode or extended wifi use!

sdf1981. Very interesting.  I bought my 5s in Texas in March, 2014.  The battery worked great.  Then I travelled to the UK on 6/18.  While in Scotland on 7/6, the battery started disappearing very quickly.  I came back to Texas on 7/18 with the same problem.  I went to the genius bar and they reset everything. same problem.  Finally they gave me a new phone and all is well now.  My problems started in Scotland, Edinburgh to be exact.

changing the battery is a Bull@#shi#t solution that they give and we have to spend our money and it wont solve at all. its the problem with the IOS and its a bug. i have been doing some research and checked with all friends that are using 5 and 5s. all problem started after the latest update. i compared with 2 iphone 5 phones with IOS 7.1.2 and 5s with IOS 7.1.1.... and a 5s with IOS 7.1.2.. suck up all Devices with IOS 7.1.2 F@#@#ing up the battery without even using them. 3 hours tops usage on IOS 7.1.2 and 6hours tops usage on IOS 7.1.1...

OK, so I've read through most of this thread and here's where I'm at.

Background:  Extreme battery drain.  My usage time would be 60%-80% of my standby time, which I would say did not correspond to my actual usage.  My phone would last from 7am-2pm before needing to be put on a charger.

Today: After testing my phone, turning everything off(disable background apps, disable location services, placing in airplane mode) and placing my phone to sleep mode, I was seeing 4-5 min usage during a duration of 10 minutes of sleep.  Read a post saying to disable the auto time zone setting.  Did another 10 minutes of sleep multiple times and I'm now seeing either 1 or 2 minutes of usage.  I'm going to see how things go tomorrow after charging and report back.

Why? Did you see my post?

They will email you an app to install on your phone. Advise you to use your phone as you normally would. Then you'll upload it to Apple via iTunes.

After about 2 weeks, you'll get a call back from the Executive Offices stating there is nothing wrong.

You are wasting your time-read my post.

    Is this normal?

    36% battery after 55min usage and 4hr 16min standby?
