Q: Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.

I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.

Thanks.

One of the things that I have heard and have done with my iPhone (I have the 5s) is that when I do not need the Wifi or the Bluetooth I turn it off. When it comes with apps, when I finish using them I close them becuase they are still using Cellular Data. So you have to close them. Another is to turn off your phone and restart it from time to time. Another is to clear your Data usage and clear your History. I have done it with my iPhone 5s and has worked and my battery last more. I hope this work!!

Why do so many things if you are paying so much money on thier Next Bg Thing, They (apple) have to take actions on these things.

I have 5 iPhones 5 series and all have been affected negatively by this latest update from the battery life to most of the apps not functioning correctly. Is there a way to remove or go back to the update before this one? REBT

Turn off all notifications, fetch email, dim brightness, no bluetooth etc etc. Have always loved being part of a bushel, but when all is said and done; this update is ridiculous and the spontaneous crashing rebooting and terrible battery life is making me wonder whether to go over to the dark side....Samsung! (which I've reviewed and friends and colleagues sing their praises). If Apple remain high price and poor service, then I'm done.

OK Prasanth I tested your suggestion --> Turn OFF Cellular

    1) charged to 100% removed from charge at 12:30...it's now 15:30 and phone is still at 100%!

That's MORE like I was seeing BEFORE iOS 7.1 but I had Cellular ON before so....

This massive battery drain issue maybe lies somewhere in the Settings --> Cellular --> ON/OFF and something that came down with iOS 7.1..

OK Apple tech... what was changed which can induce this behavior?   Cheers..

Also a battery drain problem on my iPhone 5 since the 7.1 update.

My battery only just survives a working day, i come home with only 15%, before it was like 60-70%.

I've shut down background use for most my apps and my BT is always off.

I dont use any new apps i havent used before on previous software builds. I do still use push instead of fetch.

In my humble opinion i think the GPS seems to be always on, maybe thats one of the causes.

Another cause may be the background lighting that turns to full brightness very easily, in my settings i've set it to about 10% but with a little daylight is seems to turn to max brightness all the time.

I'd love apple to fix this because at the moment i cant leave my house without my charger.

I am also seeing a significant change in battery usage.  My phone used to last 2-3 days, now I am lucky to get through one day with no change in my normal usage.  I am using the same settings I have since I got the phone with bluetooth turned off all the time.  I have noticed that with ios 7.1 it appears that the GPS seems to be stuck on if the location services are active, which have to be on for find my iPhone to work.

I did some experiments today and found that indeed it is this location service that is causing all this crazy power drain on my iphone 5s. I truned it off and even on wifi, I am geting good battery life.

For another reason, I had to restore my iPhone 5S after updating to iOS 7.1.  I restored from my backup.  The battery life is dramatically improved.  I suggest you try that.

Well they maybe will but something is that you have to know what is draining your battery life. I have the feeling that apple will work on that just wait!!

Try going to Privacy and turning off Location Services. it worked for me. I think there must be a new NSA requirement in this version.

After one full day of troubulshooting and searching on many forums, I come to the problem of this update.

I realise my wifi is running very good and no sim signal and no location service running correctly. This update have maximised the use of resources to run devices faster

which leads to drain in battery.

Update all of your apps and then reset the network settings. To reset the network setting go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. Your wifi password will have to be re-entered after resetting the network. This helped with my battery draining problem, I hope it helps you with yours.
