Can this be done? They are just a clutter.

Open Calendar, and click the "Calendars" button in the bottom center. Find the Holidays calendar and uncheck it.

As it happens I tried this but that calendar is not in the list. Is there a way to make it show?
When you click the "Calendars" button to display the calendars, is there a "Show All Calendars" button available to click? Click it if it's there. If it's not there, you are already looking at all the calendars.
so strange, I live in Central America in a Spanish Speaking country, I bought my iPad in France and I get all the US holidays on my calendar after installing 7.1, why doing things on an easy way when you can make them complicated!

Yes there is a Show All Calendars button, when I click it though, there is no Holidays calendar available for me to shut off.
So that means the holidays must be appearing from one of the other calendars you have enabled.
Check the color the holidays are displayed. Match that to the color of one of the calendars you see when you do Show All Calendars (and the "Edit" to see the calendar's color).
Got it! Thanks much. I simply had to scroll down to see it. Ironically, the scroll bar to the right does not show up until you start scrolling, so I had no idea there were more calendars listed at the bottom.

By the way, in case you are (or ever become) a Mac user, the scroll bars behave similarly on the Mac by default. (You can change this behavior there if you don't care for it.)
