Printing pdf files with preview

Hi, All

I am trying to print out a boarding pass with Easyjet. When I go through to check in it advises me that I need a pdf viewer to view and print my boarding pass.

I have preview set as my default. But when ever I proceed to check in it automatically opens a new tab to the adobe reader website with an option to download. I don't want to use adobe but can't seem to get past this problem. I eventually gave in and downloaded adobe reader, set that as default and I'm still getting the same problem. So I've uninstalled it but still can't print my boarding pass. One last thing, on a previous flight my girlfriend using her work computer (Windows) was able to check me in and then I printed the boarding pass no problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.

Step 1

If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.

Step 2

There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.

Step 3

If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security

and check the box marked

Allow Plug-ins

Then click

Manage Website Settings...

and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.

Step 4

Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

/Library/Internet Plug-ins

In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.

From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.

Step 5

The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.

Step 6

Do as in Step 4 with this line:

~/Library/Internet Plug-ins

If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Safari also includes built-in support for viewing PDF files. When you follow a link to a PDF in Safari, such as a user guide, it's displayed in the Safari window without having to open another app. Safari's built-in find and zoom features work with PDFs too.

If you want to save the PDF to your local drive, move your pointer to the bottom of the Safari window to see Safari's built-in PDF tools appear. Click the Download button to save the file to your downloads folder. Click the Preview button to open the file directly in Preview.

I have an answer a solution that has worked for me.

I am using Firefox on Mac (Mavericks).

Had same problem in Safari.

Every time I clicked on the check-in button I got redirected to the adobe reader page.

Now here's the thing.

My redirects are to a new tab and the original check-in page remains as before.

However the check-in page now has a pop-up which asks whether you want travel insurance.

In the past I used to ignore it.

Don't ignore it.

The travel insurance pop-up is the route to the check-in.

Click the appropriate buttons on the pop-up and away you go.
