Can confirm this too with a T-Mobile branded iPhone 4S freshly upgraded to iOS 7.1.

Every time I connect to my Windows XP Professional 32 Bit machine and after pressing the "Trust" button the Windows Scanner and Fax dialog plus the "Apple Iphone" device icon disappears in seconds. Then you need to press "Trust" again and things repeat.

Since I did not have iTunes installed on this Windows XP machine I went with the suggestion from the Apple support hotline. After installing the newest version of iTunes 11.1.5.5 and then rebooting the machine now I can again access the device even using Explorer or the WIA dialog for scanners and cameras.

My iPhone is a 4s Verzion Phone and it gets stuck in the "Trust" loop. I don't want to install iTunes on all of my computers just to get pictures & videos transfered. My work computer is Win7 same problem I am not allowed to install iTunes on it. It works with a non upgraded iPhone. I hope Apple is not trying to force us to install iTunes just to access our pics/videos via a pc!

I can confirm this issue too for Windows XP. My wife and her co-workers have a mix of iPhone 4 and 4s and after upgrading to 7.1 are no longer able to transfer photos from their iPhone to their Windows XP machines. It's a problem as they need to be able to do this as part of their work.

As for Windows 7, I can connect my iPhone 5 to my work Windows 7 PC no problem. And of course I have no issue connecting to any of my Macs 🙂

As I don't have access to a Windows XP machine, I tried to reproduce the issue by setting up a Windows XP virtual machine on my MacBook Air, and there I had no issues at all, and I didn't even get the "Trust this computer" alert, so I'm guessing that using a VM is masking the problem.

I'm going see if my wife can install iTunes on her work PC to see if that resolves the problem. If that is indeed a solution, then it's nothing to do with "Apple forcing us to install iTunes" as some above have suggested, but much more likely that the iTunes install provides updates to the drivers used to connect iOS devices.

As I stated before you only need the Apple Mobile Device USB driver contained in the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi package contained in the iTunes package. I have isolated all needed files and created an install batch file with dpinst to deploy them if you are interested for your corporate network or road warrior fleet of iPhone camera users.

FYI, Here at work we have confirmed it is a definite bug when connecting to an XP workstation. The same phones and cords will connect to any Win 7 workstation with no issues.

We have tried the USB driver fix, no luck. We have tried uninstalling every single piece of Apple software (including registry entries) and reloading, still loops.

Not that Apple will care, but we are near the end of our contract with our carrier and ready for phone upgrades. This is driving everyone nuts at work. Several can not do their job retrieving photos from their phone. Talk already of abandoning our iphones for something else.

Emailing photos is turning into a major pain!

Mike - Just updating the USB Driver (6.0.999.65) does not solve this problem. APPLE! WE NEED THIS FIXED!!

IT IS JUST A CAMERA THAT WE WANT TO GET THE FRICKIN' PICTURES OFF OF FOR WORK!!! THERE WILL BE A BUNCH OF NEW NON IPHONES IN THE OFFICE VERY SOON IF THIS IS NOT CORRECTED!!!!!

Screaming and shouting in here will get you absolutely nowhere. Apple do not regularly read these forums. The correct way to bring this to Apple's attention is to file a bug report. You can do this either at:

http://www.apple.com/feedback

or (if you have an Apple Developer account):

http://bugreport.apple.com/

The more people that report the problem, the more likely it is that Apple will prioritize a fix.
