Harddrive crash, how to recover files itunes

Our old windows 7 pc had a hard drive failure, no backup so we had to do a fresh install.

Couldn't find the win 7 disk so put xp on the new drive as a temp and installed itunes

Problem is that now when i connect the iPad (which has a massive collection of pdf/ebooks) to the pc it wants to wipe the iPad

obviously thats not an option, the books are only existent on the iPad at the moment.

Anyway, there is no way i can wipe this iPad, i need to get iTunes running again, why I cant simply synch this choosing the iPad as a master is beyond reason.

Any assistance would be welcome, but i am not going to purchase any special utilities to extract files, I need the iPad intact and flappy bird isn't the only reason.

Sincerely

Almost Android
