security update?
is it necessary to update the iPhone 4s if you are running iOS 5 rather that iOS 7? if so does the security update iOS 7.0.6 change the operating system to iOS 7, which i read is slower on the iPhone 4s?

If you update an iPhone 4S, it will update to 7.1 as of today. There is no way to do a 'partial' update.
