Personal Hotspot only works via usb??

Couple of days ago my iphone's personal hotspot was working completely fine. After I plugged my usb into my laptop, my hotspot only says that is connect via usb, which doesnt let my internet work when I am out. I have tried restarting my phone, turning wi-fi on and off but nothing has worked.
