Q: My iPhone 4 will not shut off and the touch screen is unresponsive. How can I reset it when the screen will not respond to touch?

The touchscreen slider to initially open the phone does not work. When I depress the on button, it announces that I have one notification, then announces the time of day and then announces: "screen locked" I then try to open by sliding the slide but it is unresponsive.  What must I do to unlock?  I have tried to simultaneously  hold down the front button and the push button on the top of the phone bbut it too is unresponsive.

    Hello John,

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  It sounds like you may have an accessibility feature turned on.

First, check the VoiceOver setting.  I recommend trying the following:

Press the home button three times quickly. This is also called "Triple-click Home".

If the VoiceOver feature still is on, you can navigate to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off here.

If it is too difficult to access those settings on the iPhone, you can turn VoiceOver off using iTunes:

    Managing accessibility features using iTunes

    1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to any computer with iTunes installed.
    2. In iTunes, select your device.
    3. From the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access in the Options section at the bottom.
    4. Select the feature you would like to use and click OK.

Alternatively, you may have Switch Control turned on.  You can disable this by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Switch Control.
