The HD is not recognized by neither of my Apples.
Are both computers updated to 10.9.2?
Do you have a backup copy of your computer's hard drive prior to the upgrade in case you need to revert to it?
How are you connecting to the drive? USB?

Mar 17, 2014 5:48 AM in response to arthurby CYBERLOU,I am not shouting... I am typing! The use of capital letters is to express how nervous and desperate I am because there is critical info in that ext. hd. I apologize if the message was interpreted with the wrong connotation.

Mar 17, 2014 5:50 AM in response to Meg The Dogby CYBERLOU,Yes, both computers are updated to 10.9.2. I do not have a back up of the computer HD, other than the time machine back up for both computers.
The external HD is conected thru USB.

Mar 17, 2014 5:57 AM in response to Apple Tech LTby CYBERLOU,The disk shows up in the Disk Utility. When I plug the HD thru USB the Mac tries to read it but it can't, poping up a window that gives me three options:
Initialize.....Ignore....Eject.
when I hit Initialize it takes me to disk utility, but it doesn not give me options on First Aid. I can only Erase, Partition, RAID, and Restore.
On the S.M.A.R.T Status status it says "unsupported"

Obviously, don't Initialize, that will erase all data.
Also, don't bother with the Seagate Diagnostics either.
Looks like you might have a bad disk.
You may need to try a 3rd Party App like Data Rescue
But since you said that this occured when Mavericks was installed, first try a Mac with ML (if you have access to one)

Mar 17, 2014 8:56 AM in response to CYBERLOUby Old Toad,Do as Tony suggested and see if another Mac, one without Mavericks, can read the disk. If it can run Disk Utility on it to repair the disk. Then try back on your Mac again.

Mar 17, 2014 10:23 AM in response to Old Toadby CYBERLOU,I Will try to find another apple. Can anyone give me an alternate option ?

Mar 17, 2014 10:33 AM in response to CYBERLOUby Old Toad,You could try a data recovery application. Go to MacUpdate.com and search for Data Recovery to get a list of potential candidates. Some may have a demo version that you can run to see if it can even recognize the drive before you have to purchase it.
