Hi jr_boston - the Ask Toolbar isn't compatible with OS X, so the only thing you might see on your MBP is a default homepage or default search engine, both of which are settings changeable from your browser.

If normal browser settings changes don't stick, then check to see if you've installed a browser add-on that may bundle Ask search tools. The add-on's settings would allow you to disable the search tools, or you can remove the add-on altogether to resolve it.

I have set Google as my search engine, but it shows up as powered by ASK, and it is ASK, not Google. I have no browser add-ons that I can find in Firefox.
