Error -36 is a communication error in many cases - it can mean bad cable, a problem with the device, or a problem with the port on the computer.

Can you try updating while connecting to another computer? If that works as expected, it's possible the USB ports on your iMac aren't working correctly anymore.

Have tried on two different computers, with two different cables with ports and virus issues checked, so it appears to be something else and now getting error 4005.

Put the iPhone in DFU mode.

    1. Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.
    2. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
    3. After 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
    4. Restore in iTunes

    Hey Helpnout -

That error code can indicate a problem with your device.

If the DFU mode instructions from RajaRani don't resolve your issue, you need to make an appointment with the nearest Apple store and see if the phone needs to be swapped out for a replacement.
