A few days ago I noticed that any flash videos I watch in HD (720p+) slow down slow-motion style and studder, but are perfectly watchable when the video quality is reduced. The HD videos even keep playing in slow motion once I hit the pause button. Tried reinstalling flash but didn't work. I'm on a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro on Mavericks 10.9.2
Try switching to your integrated graphics chip in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
So set it to longer battery life. I know it doesn't make sense to use the weaker graphics chip but there are a lot of problems with the discrete chips for mid-2010 all of a sudden.

Doing the opposite helped me actually - I turned off the automatic switching so that only my high powered card would be used and no more issues 🙂 thanks for the tip!
