iPod Touch 4G, unresponsive, no home button..

First post here as I can't find a solution anywhere to problem I am having.

The device seems to be unresponsive, the power button will not work, connecting to the AC does nothing either, neither iTunes or my PC can pick up the iPod. Normally in this situation you would do a 'hard reset' however with a broken home button, it's pretty much impossible.

I've tried RecBoot and TinyUmbrella in an attempt to place my device into recovery mode, but neither programs detect that the device is connected.

Not sure what else to do now, if anyone has a solution to this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the fast reply, just now I've removed some dust from the dock connector, tried on 2 other PCs and another cable. I don't know whether the device is on or off, about an hour ago it pinged with a notification but now it's like it has completely died.

Any other way of resetting it? If not I'll wait for the battery to drain and try again.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the device is off, or is locked, I'm not quite sure exactly but I cannot power it back on.
