I have a document saved in Preview on my desktop.  I want it to do something on a particular date to remind me to look at it.

It would be nice if the reminder opened the Preview file on that date, but it will be sufficient if something appears somewhere that morning to remind me to do what I need to do with that document.

MS Word has a dandy "Flag for Follow Up" feature.  I use it all the time.  Does Preview have a similar tool?

    Preview does not.

Open Reminders.app and set one for that date.

Or in Calender.app set a notice for that date.

One thing you can do is as follows.

In Calendar, when setting a notice for the event, click on the date, then click Alert, then Custom, then click on "Open file" in the topmost dropdown menu.

Does Reminders have the ability to link to a file, as does Calendar?  I do not find any such function in my copy of Reminders.  It would be nice if Reminders would open a file when I want it to.

    No.
