4s call problem after upgrading to 7.1

Hi All,

After upgrading to 7.1, my 4s is completely no sound when calling someone and when answer the call.

I cannot hear any thing from the other end and vice verse. The phone ring when some one rings me. But no sound when I ring someone. Enable speaker also does not give any sound.

I tested my phone using viber, mic and speaker are normal. Recording and music play are also good. Which means nothing wrong with hardware.

Already reset the phone and event restore from downloaded IOS using shift + Restore did not help.

Please investigate. My phone is now useless. Cannot call or answer phone call as it is completely silence.

Any one having the same issue? Any work-around please.

Hello ncanqn,

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone. It certainly is impossible to make and receive calls if you can't be heard and cannot hear the other person. You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps already.

Thanks for you response Sheila, however, these kbs did not help as you can see my troubleshootings above. It is definetly no hardware issue.

The phone ring when someone calls me
Recoding and play back have sound on speaker, headset
Viber and another voice ip app have sound on both speaker and receiver. Mic also working fine.
Only Iphone caller have no audio on earphone, speaker and even headset. Volume is set to maximum. Mic is not working

What else we could do with hardware troubleshooting? It must be a bug in default phone caller app.

I cannot:

wait until next IOS release
downgrade to 7.0.6 where everything was working fine
sell the phone as it is not working
buy a new one because of software issue

Carrying an Iphone but cannot make/answer call, what's a shame? Everyone is laughing at me when I tell them that I can only text message on Iphone.

Cannot do any call businesses.

What should I do Apple? Please advised asap.

Hello,

I have same issue but with iPhone 5. My provider is T-mobile in Czech Republic.

I tried to downgrade by downloading ipsw 7.0.6 for my iphone, but iTunes tells me that I can't downgrade 😟

I need quick solution for this. Because now my phone is only brick I can put into wall.

Just for case I tried to record and play audio from Audio record in Dictaphone and it worked like charm.

I was beside myself as well with all the same trys to fix the problem.

I read one about turning off Bluetooth - and it worked for me.

Hi Photosplus,

You are lucky. My bluetooth was off when doing all the test.

Just turned it on, no difference.

Apple engineers, please look into this issue asap !!!

I tried to turn bluetooth off too, but no luck.

I also change simcard of my provider and no luck too.

Second issue is that my iphone run out of power very quickly. Much more than before.

Me too. Changed sim, tried with different locations but no help.

It is definitely software issue. Everything was working before upgrading.

Today I tried to restore my iphone on my frinds mac book and no changes.

It drives me crazy...

I'm trying to fix an iPhone 4 right now with this issues and ended up here reading this! This is not a hardware issue! Is an update to 7.1 issue! Ear speaker and mic does not work during calls but they work using FaceTime and recorder! When updated to 7.1! Apple should work on this and make an update to fix this! I don't understand how jail breakers can fix this issues faster than apple employees!

Hi All,

Just want to update on my issue. I contacted web support, after couples questions, they directed me to phone support.

Contacted phone support, direct me to Apple repair center.

After checking my phone, repair center advised me that the phone hardware is faulty. The guy said there is a component that control the mic and sound which used by caller app but not other such as facetime, viber, video recording.

I don't beleive that the hardware is faulty as it happened to many users and only after upgrading to 7.1. I think apple cannot find any better answer than saying hardware faulty.

Apple will replace the phone if your phone is covered. However I beleive we are all out of cover.

Apple, please investigate this and don't let us down. Replace our phone until you find the software issue.

I ve been playing around with the iphone 4 early mentioned, i repair phones ( certified tech ) i have swapped parts from working iphones to this faulty iphone 4 and nothing works! I have reset it, (power + home) factory reset it (dfu) (recovery) i gave it a sonic bath, cleaned all contacts on earspeaker, cleaned headphone jack! Nothing works!! Everytime i restart the phone i can see that the bluetooth turns on by itself and when i make a call, the speakephone button turn ons by itself although there is no sound from the speakers when making a call or sound from the earspeaker! If i hit the menu from the button of the screen while making a call, under the music controls i can see that it says iphone speaker and when i hit that it doesnt allow me to change it to iphone, also the option airplay doesnt show up! If the customer support from apple says " there is a component damaged that controls the mic and sound used by the caller app " this is a bug on ios 7.1 is not hardaware failure! The same earspeaker is used for facetime audio and phone calls and they work while calling on facetime, they doesnt work on a normal call!
