Surprised to hear this. I use Limewire and Acquisition all the time without problem. Just installed and they connected quickly. You shouldn't have to do anything to your system but you can go into System Preferences, select "Sharing" and turn on or off your Firewall (it is the second tab). It is defaulted to "Off" but even so, Limewire will detect whether or not you have a firewall and will use a port that is established for designated file access. If you're firewall is in use Limewire will alert you (at the bottom of the running Limewire app look for a little brick wall or a world globe, run your mouse over it and text will appear to tell you if a firewall is in use or not).
Other than that, are you sure you are connected to the 'Net?
