My Outlook calendar items won't show on my iPad

I am not very tech savvy. I use Outlook 2010 on my PC for all my calendar appointments. In other words, I enter all of my calendar appointments via Outlook 2010 on my PC. I want them to show up on my iPad Air as well. My iPad Air says the only way to sync my calendar is via iCloud, I can't do it via USB cable and iTunes sync. It also says it will happen automatically. Except it's not. The calendar is not syncing. None of the current or past appointments that are on the Outlook calendar on my PC show up on my iPad. Why is this? How do I get it to sync? I have gone everywhere, in iCloud, iTunes, on the iPad and in Outlook on my PC and I can't see anything that will make a sync occur.

What specific settings do I need to check or enable on either the iPad, in iCloud or on my PC to make the appointments on my PC Outlook calendar show up on my iPad Air?

Thanks, Sooner Al, I had read those support instructions before posting here and did not understand them. What nothing in there says is that Outlook has two versions: an Outlook data file version (My Calendar) and an iCloud version.Or maybe the support instructions say this but in a techhie way that I could not understand. Anyway, iPad will only sync with the iCloud version. The Outlook data file version will not sync to iPad. So, any appointments you enter using the Outlook data file version (My Calendar) will not sync to iPad. Also, you cannot copy appointments from the Outlook data file version to the iCloud version, you have to manually re-enter everything into the iCloud version.

I cannot use the iCloud version because it will not communicate properly with my clients who use Outlook and who constantly send me appointments. It's important that I be able to accept or decline these appointments in Outlook and the only way I can do this is to use the Outlook data file version. The iCloud version will not communicate back to my clients properly.

I dont' know why you can't just connect the iPad to iTunes on the computer using a USB cable and manually sync with Outlook like I can with my iPhone 4s. This works perfectly for my phone. Stupid that you HAVE to use iCloud with the iPad.

For anyone else reading this, I have found third party software that will copy all appointments from the Outlook data file version (My Calendar) into the iCloud version and allow them to sync with iPad. It is called Code Two Sync for iCloud. You can Google it for reviews, the download link, etc. I downloaded this and installed this and it did exactly what it was supposed to, and all of my appointments showed up on my iPad. However, there were a bunch of duplicates. I'm sure there is some way to fix this. The bigger issue for me is that I have an older computer that is having hard drive issues and the Code Two software crashed Outlook, so I had to uninstall it. However, maybe it will work for other people.

I was having this very problem today. It has taken me maybe eight hours or more, but I finally have it working. Here are the notes I made for myself just in case I ever have to go through this again.

1) I had to “repair” Office as the iCloud control panel wasn’t recognizing that Outlook 2010 was installed. So I uninstalled iCloud control panel, repaired Office, and then reinstalled iCloud.

2) Once iCloud control panel installed and gave me the option of syncing the calendar and mail and stuff, I did so. Immediately everything in my Outlook calendar got erased and it was all uploaded to the cloud, where my calendar looked good -- everything in place. I checked it via the web.

3) Still I couldn’t enter something into Outlook and have it appear in iCloud on the web or my iPhone, which I'd already set up to use iCloud. So I went into Outlook options, add-ins and saw that there was a disabled dll for iCloud.

4) I had to go into C:/program files (NOT x86)/Microsoft Office/Office14/ and run Outlook as administrator.

5) Then by using “manage – go” I could first move the “disabled” iCloud dll from “disabled” to “inactive.” Then again I used “manage – go” to move iCloud from inactive to active.

After all that I could enter an appointment in Outlook 2010 and it would appear almost instantaneously on the iPhone. Works the other way, too – I just tested it. Yay.

Antonm:

On the "Outlook Options" / "Add-Ins" window, did you look at the bottom for the "manage" drop-down window? As I recall, it was showing "Manage: COM Add-Ins" by default, and I had to change it to show "Manage: Disabled Items." At least I think that's what happened. It's been a few days, and I don't remember exactly how it worked. But I did find a disabled iCloud element, and when I finally got it enabled everything started working. In fact, I have Outlook 2013 installed now, and the Outlook calendar on my desktop is syncing very nicely with my iPhone.

I assume installation of the iCloud Control Panel on my desktop computer is what put the iCloud element into Outlook in the first place. I have no idea why the element would have been installed and then disabled, but that appears to be what happened.
