Is there any way to open individual clips into a video editing software (e.g.. VideoPad)?

I recently put all my photos and videos onto my Mac from my camera. The videos have come up in AVCHD. I want to open them into VideoPad so i can edit them. Is there anyway i can do that? Can't seem to seperate the clips out, to able me to open them in VideoPad.
