voice memo app - my recording disappeared when I selected "new recording"?

I created an 80 minute voice memo recording, and after hitting stop, I selected "new recording" thinking that this would enable me to save and name my new recording file. Instead, my sound file is nowhere to be seen and I have a newly named recording with nothing on it (0 seconds in length).
