Q: So how does AirPort work with an existing broadband wireless router?

Seems to me its going to conflict with my bb router, or does it create a separate local network and use a dual wireless connection?

Exactly, typically you'll see people using the Extreme in 'bridge' mode alongside their ISPs router/modem. The ISP router manages the routing while the Extreme handles providing the actual wifi network.

It will conflict, wireless interference, so most people including myself turn off the wireless on the existing router leaving only the extreme broadcasting wifi.

Ah, so the AirPort has a hard network connection to the BB router and bridges/routes all wireless connections to the internet? Interesting.
