I'm in Japan and there was an earthquake here last night. Really freaked me out.
Right away I got an Emergency Alert on my phone. But it was all in Japanese.
The issue is I was unable to copy and paste it into a translation service... what if there was a tsunami coming?
After 10 minutes I found the japanese USGS equivalent and their english page put me at ease.

I just got an alert in Taiwan, where I'm learning Chinese. I haven't learned 95% of the words in this alert yet. How hard could it be to enable copy/paste of the text?
(Really could do without the snarky replies from supposed ex-Marines, too)
So? What's the issue? Maybe you should talk to the government of Japan about why they issue emergency alerts in the language that's spoken there instead of yours...
The issue is you should be able to hold down your finger and select and "Copy" the text of an emergency alert; you can't.

I'd probably turn on the news, or follow all the other people running away from the beach.
If you had any idea that's what the emergency warning you just received was.

This assumes everyone has the sense to run away. More often people film the disaster and upload to Facebook and YouTube. (It may be all that survives )

Congratulations on not reading my post and assuming that I feel entitled to english alerts. I'm in Japan learning Japanese. Wonderful place full of wonderful people.
Been there. Done that. Camp Fuji. 1983. An earthquake hit someplace about 25 miles or so from the base. All we knew was that we were sitting on the side of an active volcano that was spitting out smoke and it suddenly started shaking... We were pretty convinced we were doomed at the time. Didn't help that I was still hung over, as were most of the guys in my squad. A Quonset hut is not a fun place to be when the ground starts to shake, by the way...
Yes, more than 3 years later and this is still a problem. But we have shade-able emoticons, so there's that.
