iPhone microphone problems - low volume, muffled

Hi guys,

I am having problems with the microphone (bottom of phone next to speaker) on my iPhone 4. During phone calls people say I sound like im in a tunnel, my voice is very muffled and quiet.

I've tried making a voice message to test if it is something specificly related to calls but when I playback the message the volume is very low. This has brought me to the conclusion that its a problem with the mic not with the software or applications.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? Is it possible to fix this?

I hope someone can help.

ps, phone is outside of warranty or Applecare.

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1

Hey there mazurjess,

It sounds like your microphone has a low or muffled sound when you are on a call, or in another voice recording app. I recommend the steps from the article named:

iPhone: Microphone issues

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183

  1. Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
  2. Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
  3. Turn the iPhone off and then on.
  4. Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
  5. If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
  6. For further assistance, contact Apple Support.
