I recently purchased a mini displayport to mini displayport cable to connect/share screens between my MacBook Pro (2010) and iMac (2009). There is not thunderboldt, so one of the mac genuises told me mini to mini would work the same.
I am not sure if I have to change settings, or what I need to do in order to make this work.
Anybody know how to make this happen?

If the iMac is a late 2009 27-inch model, it'll work the same way. If it's a 21-inch late 2009 iMac or any earlier model, target display mode isn't available and you need to use a product such as ScreenRecycler.

I looked into Synergy as well as Teleport. But wondering why neither of my computers are acknowledging the mini displayport-to-mini displayport cable?
If I need software, any recommendations?
