Computer Illiterate: Recently installed Timecapsule causing havoc to wifi.

I recently installed time capsule. In addition, I have 3 airports scattered about the house. Wifi connection stops and starts and resets and is slow since timecapsule install. A friend of mine ran some diagnostics. Said i was getting significant packet loss. No idea what that means but I assume it's no good. Do I simply have too many devices?

In addition to that, I have yet to have a successful backup to time capsule. When it starts the backup, it says it needs 4 days to complete which doesn't seem right.

Help? Suggestions?

Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Redo the configuration of the network.

I suggest you factory reset the lot.

Is the TC the main router?

Use all SMB names for base stations and wireless.

If they are all wired then I recommend you setup channels manually to ensure you get the best spread as sometimes the auto channel option doesn't work as well.

Certainly the AC version TC probably will stick with 149 for 5ghz.. you can move the express to other channels fairly easily assuming they are later dual band ones.. for early N model you are usually better sticking with 2.4ghz if you have range issues. Use the 3 main channels, 1, 6, 11 and then put one of them on 9. The one furthest away as it is overlapping.

For the first TM backup of the computer.. use ethernet with wireless turned off. It will complete about 10x faster than wireless and it will be more reliable. Once the first backup completes you can go back to wireless.

Remember the new TC needs ipv6 set to link-local.

Also turn off wireless in the computer when you do use ethernet.
