pod touch is telling me to connect to itunes when i plug into my computer it makes the little noise when u plug it in, but nothing else it doesn't show on itunes or tray or icon please help

PLEASE HELP I JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW TO GET ITUNES 2 RECOGNIZE IT I'M HAVING THE HARDEST TIME & VERY FRUSTERATING CAUSE I'VE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS W/ IT OR ANY OF MY IPODS EVER UNTIL ONE DAY OUT OF THE BLUE IT HAD THE PICTURE OF THE CORD&ARROWPOINTING TO THE WORD ITUNES OKAY SWEET SO WHAT NOW?? IT'S SAD CAUSE THIS WAS MY SONS B-DAY PRESENT FROM ME YEARS AGO HE WAS SO EXCITED, BUT IT'S BEEN "OUT OF ORDER" 4 SO LONG(NOT WORKING) THAT HE NEVER GOT 2 REALLY USE IT,OR ENJOY IT, SO I'M TAKING THIS POS IN 4 TRADE TOWARDS SOMETHING NICE & NEW THAT HE CAN ACTUALLY USE THANK U VERY MUCH!!!
Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11.1.5) Installed on your computer

You may need to try this More than Once... Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
