I know you solved your issue, Peter, but for the benefit of others with a similar problem I'll describe my situation. I would have emails on my iPhone 6 disappear, whether read or unread, if they were at least a few days old. This was a "Mail Days to Sync" setting issue. If it's set to let's say 2 weeks, emails older than 2 weeks will be hidden. You'll find them if you search for them, but they won't show up among emails listed in the inbox. Here is how I changed that setting so as to unhide emails and to keep other emails from being hidden:

Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> select your email account under "ACCOUNTS" -> Mail Days to Sync -> change the amount of time

The farther out a timeframe you choose, the farther out emails will remain unhidden.

I am sorry not to have come back to you earlier but life has been rushing by at far too great a speed just lately !!!

Firstly I compared all the settings of my ipone with that of my wife and made them identical. No luck - still the same problem

Then, I tried creating a new email identical account without deleting the original - no good I was told there was already an acount with the same details

Finally I plucked up courage and deleted the account and created a new one. Hey presto, it worked and everything is back where it should be.

I am not as computer literate as I would like to be (old enough to remember the first telex messages and thinking them incredibly modern) and much appreciate the help you have been too me.

Thank you.

Before last Tuesday I could open my emails in the usual way. Now when I open Mail I can only read mails received before last Tuesday. My wife who has the same iphone can open all our mails without a problem.

Also, if I carry our a search for a mail that I know is there but 'hidden' it will open but disappears again after it is closed. Furthermore, if I trash a message on my computer it then appears in the trash file on my iphone!

I can only assume that somehow I have pressed a button which ,hides' my mail. How can I reverse the process. Any ideas please.

Many thanks.

Sounds to me like your mail database got corrupted on the phone.

I would suggest disabling the account (Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> select your account at the top and then disable the switch next to mail), then switching to the Mail app (which should not show any emails now), and then re-enable your account (by going back into settings and setting the switch next to Mail back to on). Then go back to the Mail.app and see if that helps.
