Q: How do I get audio from Safari to play over my mini display port to HDMI cable? iTunes plays audio over it just fine.

In fact everything plays over the speakers *except* iTunes which plays with no fuss oved the display port/HDMI connection. I'm really confused as to why one would work and not the other.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Mid-2010

How embarassing - I just realized the reason it was working in iTunes is because it was airplaying to my AppleTV. Still not sure why audio isnt working over the Mini Display Port though.

Your 2010 model Mac does not support audio over the Mini Display port and or with any adapter to HDMI.
You have to run a second cable from the headphone out port to an input on the TV.

To my knowledge the only Mac notebooks that support audio over that style port is 2011 models that have the Thunderbolt port. Thunderbolt and Mini display are the exact same port size and shape but they do not have the same function.

Then maybe is it the adapter he is using.
