Mar 15, 2014 8:23 AM in response to ccunning2by ccunning2,How embarassing - I just realized the reason it was working in iTunes is because it was airplaying to my AppleTV. Still not sure why audio isnt working over the Mini Display Port though.

Mar 15, 2014 8:32 AM in response to ccunning2by LowLuster,Your 2010 model Mac does not support audio over the Mini Display port and or with any adapter to HDMI.
You have to run a second cable from the headphone out port to an input on the TV.

Mar 15, 2014 10:14 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby LowLuster,To my knowledge the only Mac notebooks that support audio over that style port is 2011 models that have the Thunderbolt port. Thunderbolt and Mini display are the exact same port size and shape but they do not have the same function.
Then maybe is it the adapter he is using.
