LTE usage in the german ePlus network

Hello, I have a iPhone 5s and I am using a SIM of the provider Blau.de which is using the ePlus cellular network. Apple restricts using LTE even when this service is available. Can someone answer when I will be able to use LTE without Jailbreaking my device and using http://openlte.de ? The Apple telephon support was not able to give an answer they stated that it would work. I am really ****** of the behavior of Apple. I have not updated iOS since I am seriously thinking to Jailbreak my device but this is not the proffered solution.

Jailbreak = no support from the Apple forums, so choose your next step carefully.

What country is your 5S from?

I ask because not all iPhones work in all other countries on all communication bands.

What do you mean by "restricts using LTE" ?
Please validate this claim and what you mean by it.

Just FYI, provisioning for 3G/4G/LTE are done by the carrier, there is no restriction by Apple on that.

Also, 3G and HSPA (4G) are really fast for a smartphone...

I was on Telekom(prepaid- Congstar) and the bandwidth/speed available on 3G (10mbps) was more than enough for what I needed as an exchange student.

I would prefer to not JB that's for sure. My phone is from a German Apple store (A1457). With restricts using LTE I mean that Apple is not activating the LTE capability of the phone if there is no carrier profile. This can be verified easily with the method stated in my original post. Verification can be done with using the same SIM in a other LTE capable Smartphone. I have not the concern that HSPA wouldn't be fast enough. I am thinking more into the direction coverage and for sure the most disappointing topic is that I have bought a phone which HW is capable to use LTE but Apple is restricting the SW. The same problem is present for users in Belgium which can't use the Belgacom LTE network with the iPhone 5s.

I ask again, prove your claim, because the way you're talking makes you sound loony.Talk to E+ as the LTE/Data profile is in the SIM Card, there are no restrictions being done by Apple. Have you asked the Apple Store directly about your issue?

According to the list, these are the German carriers that are currently supporting LTE.

I am not crazy and I know what I'm talking about.

For me e.g. The Sami SIM is working in a other Smartphone.

E+ is in contact with Apple as you can see on their Website.

Also several tech Sites are reporting about this issue

The Apple overview regarding Supportes LTE carriers is known to me. But again, can someone explain the technical reason why LTE is not generally allowed in all networks regardless of any profiles as it is with 2G and 3G?

What Key78 referes to is a know problem, that eplus LTE doesn't work on iPhones. I even read that it works on the iPad. So this is something where Apple holds his hands on and only Apple Partners can offer LTE which is a bit back in the times where all iPhones where SIM-Lockes. I wonder when soem regulatory commision will let Apple pay a fine for this distortion of competition.

In Belgium something starts to move. The government is thinking about to fine Apple. I can refer to this: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-could-get-fined-for-keeping-LTE-off-of-the- iPhone-in-Belgium_id51962

Also it seems that KPN is goning forward to negotiate with Apple see in an other thread here in the panel: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4484328?answerId=25354752022#25354752022

Very good news from Belgium. Finally Apple released the carrier profile and LTE usage in the Belgacom Network is now available. Lets see how long Apple is blocking LTE in the german ePlus Network. The sad side is that in Belgium the people had to wait almost 2 years.

For me the next Phone is not mandatory a iPhone based on this bad expierience in restricting the user rights to choose freely their Operator!

I have received a very nonsense reply from Siymo (also an operator owned by Eplus and using their network) when asking why I cannot use LTE with my 5S on the Eplus network and why O2 customers (O2 owns now via Telefonica Eplus) instead can. And why as Simyo customer, I have to be treated as a "B" customer.

They claim with a very empty answer that the offers for the hardware lie in the area of responsability of the hardware manufacturer themselves. (????)

"simyo kann die Vertragskonditionen seiner Mitbewerber weder beeinflussen noch zeitnah Angebote zur Verfügung stellen, die im Verantwortungsbereich des Hardwareherstellers liegen. Wir bitten um Ihr Verständnis."

I have just now written back also making the point that Simyo (as well as Eplus) lie when they say that LTE is for "everybody" (not true), that they sell the iPhone 5S merrily on their website without writing that LTE cannot be used at this time (while offering an LTE tarif with it) and that even on one of the FAQ:

https://www.simyo.de/faq/lte-bei-simyo-15480.html

they lie saying that any LTE capable device that can use the frequencies of the Eplus LTE network can use LTE. Blatantly not true.

I have asked Simyo how they intend to compesate me for not being able to use LTE although offered in the data tarif I am paying for.

If you have no idea about all the things that happened in the background you really shoudn't comment on that so ridiculously.

They only one site that delayed the activation of LTE on all Belgian networks was Apple and no the carriers.

Luckily the Belgian parliament passed a law that finally forced Apple to release LTE regardlessly the carrier you are on in Belgium.

Take note.

Jun 7, 2014 11:14 AM in response to Paolo Vasta

Simyo can't do that much I guess, if E-Plus as the main carrier doesn't want to sign the contract with Apple for selling iPhone directly from Apple. This contract would make it possible to use LTE on iPhone when using E-Plus or Base. Unfortunately, there is no support from the German government or any similar institutions, so Apple won't do that soon. They only one chance is the EU Commission allowing o2 to take over E-Plus in Germany later this summer.
