Where are the complaints? This is the Mavericks help community. If there were a lot of complaints we would have seen them.

How many apps do you have oprn? How much ram does your computer have? What are you doing when you see this message? What computer model/year do you have?

Did you ever think that maybe there is something wrong with your Mac that needs to be fix by you troubleshoot the problem to find the cause rather then whining & moaning for Apple to fix your problem for you?

I have two Macbook Pros running Mavericks and I have never seen your running out of memory error. Unless you provide the info I asked for, there is no way for us to help you.

Yes I have doing a permission repair at least once a week, clue is when everything almost stops wont respond. This is Mavericks isue I am running 4 Mac's doing the same thing. Is just not as stable a Snow Lepard!! About every 6 -9 months reset permissions and that only clears a little it's the memory I am maxed at 8 gig on the laptops but but the desktop running ovet 32 gigs how can it take that much with a browser open and excel or word there is a problem. And there are a whole lot of folks on the Apple board with the exact same issue!

See the "compressed memory" section here.  Apple redesigned the way the OS uses memory under Mavericks.

    http://www.apple.com/osx/advanced-technologies/

Using memory is just fine since Mavericks was installed.  It simply means the memory is not just sitting there dormant.  It will be repurposed as needed.

The "running out of App memory" warning is a very general Apple error statement which unfortunately doesn't say WHY it is happening. If you Google the problem you will discover all sorts of different programs and processes turn out to be at fault. If I were you I would try quitting Firefox and restart. Then use Safari for awhile instead of Firefox and see if the problem occurs. If the problem doesn't show up with Safari then you know there is some process that Firefox is using that is causing the error.

I tried safari and it used around the same memory. With nothing running it's still uses about 5.50 gb of ram this does not seem like much of a reserve. I was digitizeing a book last night when running out of memory occored. I kept quitting apps but you have to restart to fix? But we have been getting just slugish response since upgrading from snow lepord?

I am really dismayed by all the posters here who have dismissed Darryl-1's post and suggested that he is somehow at fault.

I have a 3-day old imac running Mavericks that is having exactly this problem.  As someone who just migrated from a pc, after a successful year-long trial of a macbook air, I have to say I am deeply disappointed by my experience.  I cannot understand how in the world a computer that is three days old that is running almost EXACTLY the same software as my macbook air .  The one difference in the software packages is that my macbook air is one generation of OS behind (it has updated but I have not yet restarted to load the new OS version).

For all those who are tempted to tell me how I caused this situation by loading some kind of faulty software--save your breath.  Everything I've got (and it's quite limited), I got off the apple store.  I expect a $1800 computer to work in the third day of its existence.  For all the problems with PCs, I never saw anything like this--and when there were issues, I could fix them.
