my ipad is disabled, i forgot the password. please help to restore the password

i see these r older posts, but i've run into this. it's idiotic, imho, that this happens. PLUS, i KNEW my passcode, something wacky happened and the ipad just didn't recognize it anymore. AND i'm having trouble restoring. what a pain just becos of a passcode that WE SET UP and now can't use the product.

ridiculous.
