itunes remote not working

I'm trying to set up the remote app for my iphone but everytime i enter the code that is shown in the app, it says that the code i entered is incorrect, when, it is actually correct. Any suggestions? I've updated both iTunes and my phone to the latest versions and it still is not working. Both are connected to the same network so i do not know what is wrong.

Macbook Pro 13" (2010), Mac OS X (10.6.4)
