If you are having trouble it is possible that your cell content is the result of a formula that is delivering a text format to your cell.

There is no facility in Numbers to convert numeric values into words. You would have to make something. The solution would best be done with an Applescript

Memory must be failing me—I thought you had done a numbers to words conversion at one time in the past. I know I did one using AppleWorks a very long time ago and looked at it when the question came up more recently. Looke at it, but didn't take it any further as someone did provide a solution.
But this question looks like it's requesting a conversion in the other direction—given an amount expressed in (Spanish) words, convert it to a standard numerical representation of the same number. Could be a more difficult exercise!

Am I missing something? When I run the spanish thru google translate I get:
"How to convert one cell is in text format to number format"
It seems to me the question you are addressing would be addressed with a lookup table. Am I right?

Google Translation does a pretty good job, but still comes up with thee occasional "A piece of burnt bread to the bride' (which does bear some resemblace to the original gesture, which did involve dipping). I read the initial line (in English) and took that as the actual issue.
A lookup table could be part of it, but it's not quite that easy.
Numeral to words has a very logical structure to the 'from' part. Words to numerals does too, but it's not as strictly adhered to in English (using the North American meanings of the terms—eg. billion), and it's different for different languages (including English English, where a billion is a thousand times bigger). Parsing the source string into keywords for lookup can get complicated! Give it a go if you're interested, but be prepared to find yourself beating your head against a wall somewhere aling the line.

Complicated indeed! I read on the internet that the English English billion is supposedly now the same as North American English billion. Another account suggests that the distinction has logical French origins (French origins are always logical) in a distinction between échelle longue and échelle courte. Can't speak for other languages, though.

Good to know my memory's not playing tricks on me—at least not this time. 😉
My AppleWorks one had some similarities, but as a Grade 4-5 worksheet generator, it went only to millions and down to thousandths.
