Q: Thunderbolt display CAMERA not working.  Tried troubleshooting..

Hi There,

I have a Macbook Pro and iMac display and the thunderbolt display camera is suddenly not working.  Can you please help?

What I've tried so far:

1.  Closing all software on both devices and restarting, including unplugging thunderbolt cables.

2.  Ensuring that iChat, Factime - etc, aren't simultaneously running.

3.  Trying to disable the camera on the laptop, which doesn't seem to be an option.

4.  Updating all software.

Basically, I'm trying to use the camera on the thunderbolt display which has never been a problem in the past.  No changes to hardware or software have been made, except to update software.

Can you please help?!

Regards,

Laura

Have you tried the relevant suggestions from How to Troubleshoot iSight:

     • Have you tested more than one Apple camera app in more than one user account?

     • Does the TB display camera show in the camera menus of the apps you try?

     • Does the TB display camera show in your Mac's System Profiler USB Device Tree?

Did you update anything else besides OS X?

Have you added or updated any third party software since things worked properly?

If you did not use the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo), try it now.

It may help you.  Repair permissions before and after.

If you have manually moved, deleted, renamed or otherwise modified any OS X files while attempting to disable your camera, you may need to reinstall your Mac OS or restore it from a backup earlier than your modifications.  Disabling any USB camera on a Mac disables all USB cameras until the needed camera software is restored.
