School Bags

I know that this topic has had the be-jesus discussed out of it, but I would like the advice from those who have gone to school and expirienced what works, and what doesnt.

I am starting school in a couple of weeks, and still need a bag for my MBP. I do a little traveling, so I would like something that can hold not only my MBP safely, but some other stuff as well (ie. Books, notebooks, pens, iPod, etc.)

I really like the messenger style bag, but I dont know if that is practical or not. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but want something that will protect the computer well. Any ideas?

Soon to have MBP 15" 2.0 ghz

I found that the Brenthaven messenger bag is excellent. It has great protection for your laptop and has room for other things suchs as folders, ipods, pens, and pencils. If you want a bag that is stylish, has great protection, lifetime warranty, and has room for other items.. the Brenthaven messenger style is the way to go. I can't remember the model number but they sell them in the Apple store.

I would suggest that you get any messenger bag that you like from wherever, and then purchase an Incase Neoprene Sleeve for it. That will protect it from scratching and small bumps in and out of your man bag.

The reason I suggest doing it this way is because if you get a bag or suitcase made specifically to fit the MacBook Pro, it limits your style selection severely and will probably cost quite a bit more than a regular one.

I also suggest a back-pack as it is less obvious that you have a computer.

Here's what I did before looking for a bag:
- Decide what features you really want and what you can live without.
Examples 1) Pen/pencil holders 2) Outside mesh pocket for water bottle 3) Top entry for laptop vs. side entry 4) iPod pocket with earplug wire hole 5) Chest strap and or waist strap for use while bicycling

Then check out a site such as www.ebags.com where you can do side-by-side comparisons (this site has that feature so it's very easy to compare). You may find some things that you need to add to the 'must-have-list' and some that you will drop. Once you know that you should be able to narrow down your search.

Oh, and be careful to make sure that your MBP will fit as a lot of them are too small (again eBags has a pop-up box that tells you specifically if the MBP 15.4 will fit in a particular bag or not). Happy Hunting!
