Auto recovery-how to retrieve files

I have a macbook pro. I was using excel for the first time. It asked me if I wanted to save the file. i din't know any better. So when I hit the save, the location was in AUto recovery, so that is where it ended up. I did not know, but that came up when the save portion appeared. So I checked yes. Now I don't now how to retrive the material. I am also trying to find how to use excell 2011, i dont know what xcell has been upgraded or not since, or even if I did so.
