Q: I want to delete purchases from the store, so that they're never available to download again. How do I do this!
If I buy a physical book and I don't like it, I can either throw it away if its really bad, or donate it to charity or sell it if its just not my thing. I want to be able to tidy up my iBooks in the same way. I don't want those books still sitting under "purchased items", I want them gone and gone permanently.

You can't permanently delete any item from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them so that they don't show in the Purchased links for redownloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
