Is it possible to either get a CD version of Mountain Lion or create your own?

I am having a seriously hard time partioning a drive and creating a copy of my OS X Mountain Lion system. I have partioned my drive and tried making a copy using Disk Utility and it tells me that what I am trying to do can not be done. So moving to other options.

Is it possible to either request a CD ROM version of Mountain Lion from Apple or even better, is there a way I can make a CD ROM version of Mountain Lion myself, so that if I dont like Maverick I can just re-install Mountain Lion.

Any help would be great.

You can make a DVD or even better a USB copy off Mountain Lion. First download "Install OS X Mountain Lion" from the App Store. When you have it (all 4.4GB of it), you can right click on the file and show package contents, then navigate to /Contents/SharedSupport where you'll find "InstallESD.dmg".

You can use Disk utility to restore this file to DVD or USB. There are tutorials on the web that you can google if you need more instruction.

Alternatively, you could download the installer which should be saved to your Applications folder and then run Diskmaker X to make a bootable USB drive (8gb stick required):

I went to the app store and searched for "Install OS X Mountain Lion" like you said and the search pulled up nothing. Is there something I am not doing right?

You probably need to re-download the Mountain Lion installer. If you previously purchased MLion it should be available to redownload from your Purchases tab on the Mac App Store (Apple Menu>App Store).

Just search for "Mountain Lion" at the app store. If you've never downloaded it before, then you can't redownload it without going to this website and paying for it

That *****. I was not aware that I would have to buy the disk when I bought the 1200$ computer with OSX on it. So theres no other way to do with without buying the disk...

You can always get a fresh install of Mountain Lion by doing internet recovery. What you want is a seperate copy of the installation media, Apple charged for that. Try calling apple and describe what you want. They may be able to help.
