Q: Re-download of iTunes purchase

realise from reading that you can redownload previous purchase, but seems to me that you can only do this either if you have never put in your library previously.  I have a record that I bought, downloaded to my library and all ok.  however all my music was lost when my drive collapsed and I am trying to recover stuff. So when I go to this tune which is still on iTunes, I can go to play it as I previously bought it, but it asks me to find the location of the file - well its not there is it because it go lost and is no longer on my computer.  Can someone please explain to me how I get this back?  I have read all the threads on retrieving and redownloading it.  I don't even mind paying for it again, but it doesn't let me!!

Does music show as a category under the Purchased link Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage ? It won't show in all countries, and you won't be able to redownload any content purchased in a different country or if it's no longer available in your country's store.

If music does show there but your albums / tracks don't have the cloud symbol against them for redownloading then delete the entries for them from the Music part of your library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message) and you should then get the cloud symbol against them in Purchased for redownloading.

If they are listed in the Music part of your library then that implies that the actual music files used to be on that computer - you haven't deleted or moved anything on your computer ?

If the tracks don't have the cloud symbol against them in Purchased then delete those tracks from your Music library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate') and you should then get the cloud icon on them in Purchased - click on that cloud icon to redownload them.
