I have4 got an iPhone still on contract and my headphones have broken already, would it be possible to get a new pair free?

Unless your carrier offers an extended warranty, the contract is irrelevant. The warranty is based on the date of purchase and will vary depending on your location. In the US it is one year, and should cover the headphones unless Apple determines it to be damage from misuse. Als, if you have Apple Care+, the tems are different. Visit the place of purchase, or an Apple Store.
