Hello: Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

For a better idea on what you have, in the way of an iBook G4,

you would need to write the operating system details, OS X, etc

and also, the configuration (RAM + Hard Drive + CPU speed.)

Your online-computer may be used to search for and find some

of the items (if available) but the iBook can go online via an

Ethernet cable instead of wireless base station; so its built-in

Software Update can look to Apple Servers for any update an

older computer like that may have pending. Some items will not

appear in that channel, because later update requires DVD to

get the last supported OS X version, on retail disc.

Depending on what OS X version, or other, your computer has,

then someone may be able to assist you by finding a source

of additional information, or a site link to learn more about it.

At this point, more about your computer & operating system,

also which browser you are using, could help to know the

basic situation facing your use of that older iBook online.

Usually the java version is installed by the OS X from its disc.

And if there were an update, that would be in Software Update.

So, lacking those details brings up more questions on this site...

    Good luck & happy computing!
